London, 11 February (H.S.): A British court unanimously convicted 23-year-old Afghan asylum seeker Ahmad Mulakhil of abducting and raping a 12-year-old girl, in a case that has sparked violent protests across Nuneaton, central England.
Lawyers revealed that Mulakhil targeted the victim in a local park on July 2024, subjecting her to sexual assault while filming the depraved act on video – a charge he admitted prior to trial at Warwick Crown Court.
The court acquitted his alleged Afghan accomplice, 24-year-old Mohammad Kabir (who claimed to be 22), after the jury accepted his testimony that he neither touched the victim nor harbored illicit intent toward her.
Mulakhil had arrived in Britain just four months prior, seeking asylum citing unspecified problems in Afghanistan; court documents omitted whether he crossed via small boat, though Kabir reportedly entered similarly on Christmas Day 2024.
The verdict triggered immediate outrage, with demonstrators waving St. George's Cross and Union Jack flags while chanting Stop the Boats and We Want Our Country Back, blocking Nuneaton streets in fury over migrant crime.
Sky News confirmed the proceedings at Warwick Crown Court, where Mulakhil's guilty verdict on all counts – including rape and video production – has intensified national debates on asylum vetting amid Britain's immigration crackdown. Sentencing awaits, but the case exemplifies escalating tensions between border security hawks and refugee advocates.
