
Bhubaneswar, 09 January (H.S.): Two young men lost their lives in a hit-and-run accident involving an unidentified vehicle on National Highway-16 near Dadhimachagadia Chhak under Khordha Sadar police limits in Odisha on Friday morning.
According to police and local sources, the victims were travelling on a scooter from Banapur Sanahantuad towards Bhubaneswar when the accident occurred. The deceased have been identified as Bikash Baral (20) and Subhranshu Sundaray (21). Both sustained critical injuries following the collision and were declared dead at the spot.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the impact of the collision was severe, leaving the scooter completely mangled. The two youths were reportedly en route to attend a job interview when an unknown vehicle allegedly rammed into their two-wheeler and fled the scene.
Upon receiving information, police personnel rushed to the spot, secured the accident site, and took custody of the bodies. The deceased were later sent to the Khordha District Headquarters Hospital for post-mortem examination. The registration number of the scooter involved in the accident has been traced, police said.
The families of the victims were immediately informed, following which relatives arrived at the police station. Meanwhile, police have launched a manhunt to identify the offending vehicle. CCTV footage from nearby areas is being examined to trace the vehicle and reconstruct the sequence of events.
Investigators are also recording statements from family members and witnesses to establish the movement of the victims prior to the incident. Further investigation into the hit-and-run case is underway.
