Women and child trafficking ring busted, two arrested from Kalyani


Kolkata, 07 January (H.S.): The Kolkata Police's Lalbazar unit has achieved a major breakthrough in its investigation into a women and child trafficking ring. A statement issued by the police on Wednesday morning said that two accused were arrested from Kalyani in Nadia district. The operation was conducted based on technical surveillance of mobile phones.

According to the police, based on information from intelligence sources and mobile location tracking, investigators raided a cafe near Kalyani ITI More, where the two accused were apprehended. They have since been brought to Kolkata for further questioning.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Sathi Biswas alias Tina and Tanmay Das. Sathi Biswas is a resident of Kalyani in Nadia district, while Tanmay Das is a resident of Ramakant Mistry Lane in the Muchipara area of central Kolkata. The police said that after the arrest of some other accused in this case, these two had been hiding in Nadia. Their movements were reported to the police as soon as they ventured out, leading to their arrest.

The police statement said that the two arrested individuals are being interrogated to ascertain who else is involved in this trafficking ring, the extent of the gang's network, and the areas where women and children were being trafficked. The police also indicated that more arrests may follow in the coming days based on the information obtained during the interrogation.
