
Dhaka, 06 January (H.S.): In yet another incident of targeted violence, a Hindu businessman was brutally murdered in Bangladesh, marking the sixth such killing of Hindus in the country within the past 18 days. The latest victim, Shyamal Chakraborty Mani (40), owner of a grocery shop in Narsingdi, was attacked with sharp weapons and killed on Monday.
The spate of violence began after the murder of Osman Hadi, with six Hindus losing their lives in less than three weeks, two of them within 24 hours of each other. These incidents have been widely reported across various media platforms.
Shyamal Chakraborty Mani, who previously worked in South Korea, returned to Bangladesh a few years ago and settled in Narsingdi. His killing has sent shockwaves through the local Hindu community.
In another incident, Hindu journalist Rana Pratap Bairagi was murdered in Manirampur, Jashore, after his throat was slit.Social activist Bappaditya Basu strongly condemned the murder of Shyamal Chakraborty Mani and warned that if this pattern continues, the Hindu community in Bangladesh may cease to exist within a few years.
Manirampur police station officer-in-charge, Mohammad Raziullah Khan, confirmed that the attack on journalist Bairagi took place on Monday evening around 6 PM. Rana was shot three times in the head and his throat was slashed.
