Kolkata, 05 January (H.S.) : Allegations of irregularities in the recruitment of non-teaching and administrative permanent posts at Visva-Bharati University in Santiniketan have been raised, with several candidates emailing complaints directly to the Chancellor of the university and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Complaints have also been sent to the Ministry of Education and the University Grants Commission.
According to sources, the complainants have alleged that the final merit lists were not uploaded on the official website of the university and that appointment letters were issued to selected candidates through private email IDs. While details related to certain posts such as Registrar, Director of Studies, and Director of Publications were made public, the merit lists for general posts including Deputy Registrar and Assistant Registrar are yet to be released.
Candidates have further alleged that although the written examination was conducted by the National Testing Agency, the preliminary results were never published on its website. Despite this, the final merit list was reportedly issued on October 27, 2025, raising serious questions about transparency in the selection process.
A senior university official has claimed that the recruitment process lacked transparency and that established rules were bypassed. However, the Visva-Bharati administration has denied all allegations.
In its response to the Ministry of Education, the university Registrar stated that all appointments were made in accordance with the recruitment notification issued on April 17, 2023, and that the selections were approved by the Executive Council on December 5. The university administration has maintained that the allegations are completely baseless.
