Guwahati, 29 January (HS): The long-awaited bridge connecting Guwahati with North Guwahati will be opened to the public on February 14. The six-lane bridge will be inaugurated by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, marking a major boost to connectivity across the Brahmaputra. Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma late Wednesday night inspected the construction work and reviewed the final preparations.
Built at an estimated cost of around ₹3,000 crore, the bridge has been named the Kumar Bhaskar Varma Bridge. During the inspection, the Chief Minister said that local workers played a crucial role in the construction of the project. He recalled that local Mising youth were also significantly involved in the construction of the Bogibeel Bridge, adding that such projects have dispelled the notion that only outsiders can execute large infrastructure works in Assam. According to him, the state’s youth are now proving their skill and capability in the construction sector.
Responding to political queries, Dr Sarma said there were no issues regarding seat-sharing between the BJP and the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP). He clarified that there would be no major changes in seat distribution and that there was no conflict between the two allies.
The Chief Minister further asserted that the BJP-led alliance would emerge victorious in the upcoming elections. He claimed that the opposition would not be able to stop the BJP and that the election outcome was already clear.
