Deputy Commissioner of Police Vivek Chandra Yadav said that the criminals
injured by the bullets were identified as Pappu Sonkar, son of Sahnlal, a
resident of Sohbatiabagh in the Georgetown police station area of Prayagraj,
and his companion Arvind Sonkar, son of the late Ajay Kumar Sonkar. Both have

He
said that on January 28, near Majhua Canal in Karchana police station area,
Chandan Soni was pushed off his motorcycle and his gold and silver bags were
looted. When he resisted, the criminals shot him and fled. In another incident,
motorcycle-borne criminals looted silver jewellery and cash from Kavita
Vishwakarma, a woman who was going on a scooter. The joint police team of
Karchana and SOG was continuously trying to solve both the incidents. On
Wednesday night, checking was underway near a culvert on the Harrai Ghode Deeh
and Bendo border. Meanwhile, two motorcycles were seen speeding. The police
team signaled them to stop for checking, but the riders, upon seeing the
police, began to flee.
Suspicious,
the police team pursued them, who then fled toward the Mungari-Panasa road.
When the riders found themselves surrounded by the SOG Yamunanagar Zone team
and the Karchana police station, panicked, they dropped their motorcycle and
began running toward the fields. Seeing themselves surrounded, the bikers
opened fire on the police team with the intent to kill, prompting the police
team to return fire in self-defense. In the police team's retaliatory fire, two
suspects, Pappu Sonkar and Arvind Sonkar, fell injured. Two other suspects,
taking advantage of the darkness, escaped.
