Guwahati, 29 January (HS): Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah is arriving in Assam today on a two-day visit. During the visit, Shah will lay the foundation stone of the second building (complex) of the Assam Legislative Assembly in Dibrugarh.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma shared this information with journalists on Wednesday while attending a government programme at Rangamati in Lakhimpur district. He said that Shah will arrive on Thursday evening and stay overnight in Dibrugarh. On January 30, the Union Home Minister will formally lay the foundation stone of the second Assembly complex. Several other official engagements are also scheduled during his visit.
According to Sarma, Shah will later travel from Dibrugarh to Dhemaji district, where he will participate in a cultural festival of the Mising community. In the evening, he is scheduled to visit the Assam Bharatiya Janata Party headquarters in Guwahati and hold discussions on the political situation in the state.
After the meeting, Shah will depart for West Bengal around 7 pm. Notably, elections to the 126-member Assam Legislative Assembly are likely to be held in March–April this year. Shah had earlier visited Assam on a one-day tour on December 29 last year.
