Jewellery Shop Employee Found Dead Under Mysterious Circumstances in Uttarpara

Hooghly, 28 January (H.S.)

A young man working at a jewellery shop in Uttarpara died under mysterious circumstances on Wednesday. His body was found hanging from the ceiling of his rented room. The cause of death—whether suicide or murder—remains a mystery. The deceased's family has alleged that he was murdered. Uttarpara police station has launched an investigation into the matter.

According to police sources, the deceased has been identified as Shubankar Patra (22), a resident of West Midnapore and had been working at a jewellery shop in Uttarpara for the past four years. He lived in a rented room in Uttarpara town for work purposes.

Suspicion arose on Wednesday morning when Shubankar did not respond to calls. Later, his body was found hanging from the ceiling with a scarf. The circumstances surrounding his death have remained a mystery since the discovery of the body.

The family alleged that Shubankar was murdered, although no specific person has been named in a formal complaint yet. Several questions are being raised. As per information, the body was hanging from the bamboo ceiling with a scarf, but Shubankar's knees were touching the ground, given his height. This raises the question of how the young man could have committed suicide if his knees were on the ground.

The police have sent the body for post-mortem and have registered a case of unnatural death. Investigating officers said that the actual cause of death will only be known after the post-mortem report is received.
