Hyderabad, January 28 (HS): In a bid to transform Hyderabad into a crime-free city, Hyderabad Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar on Wednesday held a high-level coordination meeting with nodal officers of various service providers at the old commissioner’s office in Basheerbagh.

Representatives from telecom companies, internet service providers, food delivery platforms, courier services and transport aggregators participated in the meeting. Emphasising the need for swift cooperation during investigations, the Police Commissioner directed all service providers to establish a dedicated wing within their organisations to promptly respond to police requests for information.

Warning companies against prioritising profits over public safety, Sajjanar expressed concern over the misuse of e-commerce and courier services for transporting marijuana, narcotics and other banned substances. He instructed courier and delivery firms to put in place strict surveillance mechanisms to detect such activities and to immediately alert the police upon identifying suspicious consignments.

He cautioned that any entity found facilitating anti-social activities, even due to negligence, would face strict legal action.

The Commissioner also took serious note of complaints regarding misbehaviour by cab and bike taxi drivers with female passengers. He directed transport aggregators to ensure constant monitoring and supervision of their drivers.

Highlighting a common commuter grievance, Sajjanar said frequent ride cancellations by drivers after learning the drop location or after receiving payment caused major inconvenience to the public. He instructed companies to initiate disciplinary action against drivers involved in such practices.

Additional Commissioners of Police M. Srinivas, Tafseer Iqbal and Swetha, DCP (Cyber Crimes) Aravind Babu, and other zonal officers were present at the meeting.
