Kolkata, 23 January (H.S.) :

Saraswati Puja brought a renewed spell of cold weather to Kolkata, with the city recording a minimum temperature of 14.5 degrees Celsius on Friday morning. A day earlier, on Thursday, the minimum temperature hovered around 15 degrees Celsius. The drop in temperature made the chill noticeable during early morning Anjali, prompting people to take out warm clothing.

According to the Meteorological Department, Friday’s minimum temperature was 0.4 degrees Celsius above normal, while the maximum temperature on Thursday was recorded at 25.8 degrees Celsius. Humidity levels in the city on Friday ranged between a maximum of 90 percent and a minimum of 40 percent.

Weather experts said that no major change in temperature is expected over the next three days. While daytime temperatures may witness a slight rise, there are no indications of a fresh cold wave intensifying.

At present, there is no forecast of rainfall in any part of north or south Bengal. The cold will remain less pronounced during the day, but mild chill is expected to persist during the mornings and evenings. Light to moderate fog is likely to occur in some parts of south Bengal over the next two days and in north Bengal over the next four days.
