Morigaon (Assam), 23 January (HS): The historic Jonbeel Mela at Govha Deoraj entered its second day on Friday, with the age-old barter market setting up along the banks of Jonbeel early in the morning.

As part of the centuries-old tradition, traders and community members from the hills and plains gathered at the mela grounds to exchange goods through the traditional barter system, temporarily suspending the use of modern currency.

Agricultural produce, handmade items and local products were exchanged in a vibrant display of indigenous economic practices, reflecting the cultural harmony and historical significance of the Jonbeel Mela. The continuation of the barter system remains a major attraction of the fair, drawing visitors from different parts of Assam and beyond.------------
