
Mumbai, 21 Jan (HS): Former Mayor of Mumbai, Kishori Pednekar has been elected
the UBT Sena Group Leader in the Mumbai Municipal Corporation. The decision was
taken during a meeting of the party. She got elected from Ward 199 defeating
the Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde) candidate Rupal Kusale.
Although
names of Vishakha Raut, Milind Vaidya and Shraddha Jadhav were in discussion,
Pednekar was elected the Group Leader.
After
getting elected Pednekar told the media that we considered the decision of the
party chief Uddhav Thackeray as final. Pednekar has wide experience of working
in the richest municipality in Maharashtra.
In a
tough contest against the BJP-Shiv Sena alliance, UBT Sena bagged 65 seats,
against 89 by BJP and 29 by Shiv Sena (Shinde). Congress stood next with 24 seats,
AIMIM 8 and NCP (Ajit Pawar). MNS who was in alliance with UBT Sena could get only
6 seats. NCP (Sharad Paewar) and SP could get only one and two seats
respectively.
KDMC: Meanwhile,
senior corporator Vishvanath Rane has been elected the leader of Shiv Sena
(Eknath Shinde) in Kalyan-Dombiwali Municipal Corporation.
Shiv
Sena (Shinde) secured 52 seats and BJP 50. The BJP-SS alliance holds majority
with both the parties making efforts to have the Mayor’s position.
The
reservation for Mayors seat in all the 29 municipal corporations which went to
polls on January 15, will be announced on January 22. The draw of lots will be
held at the Department of Urban Development, Mumbai.
