Nagpur, 21 Jan
(HS): In a high-stake theft at Nagpur’s Raj Nagar, thieves stole 2.4 kg
diamond-studded gold ornaments and Rs 65 lakh cash from a businessman Baljinder
Singh Inderjit Singh Nayyar (56). The gold, diamond and cash worth about Rs 3
crore were stolen on Monday night, when Baljinder Singh with family was
attending his younger son’s engagement ceremony at a farmhouse in Kalmeshwar,
about 17 km from Nagpur.
Interestingly,
the thief entered the bungalow by breaking open the window of the kitchen, used
keys kept in Baljinder’s mother’s room, opened the locker and removed the gold
ornaments, locked it again and kept the keys at the same place. The CCTV camera
footage indicated that the thief, whose face was covered, had knowledge of the
entire house. The cash was kept in Gurinder Singh’s room, which was a
collection from the family’s three petrol pumps. The thief escaped through the
same route from where he entered the house.
After entering
the premises he covered one of the CCTV cameras, which also indicate that he
had knowledge of the surveillance system.
Nayyar family
after returning at around 3 am on Tuesday, noticed the theft and immediately
informed the police. A team of police with forensic experts and a dog squad rushed
to the site. Based on CCTV footage police and fingerprints police are searching
for the thief.
