Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, 21 Jan (HS): In an
important decision the Aurangabad Bench of the Bombay High Court stated that
refusal to marry cannot be held as abetment to suicide.
A case was filed against a girl who refused to marry
a boy, who later committed suicide in December 2023. Both had love affair and
then the girl refused to marry the boy. A complaint relating to abetment to
suicide was filed against the girl at Shivajinagar Police Station in Beed.
The defender girl’s counsel Adv Sayyad Tausif Yasin
argued that break up in love affair or refusal to marry cannot be considered as
abetment to suicide, which the court accepted. The court also opined that the
evidence is not enough to prove the allegation of abetment to suicide. The High
Court also directed to submit the charge sheet pending with the Chief
Magistrate in the case.
