Kathmandu, 20 January (H.S.): Nepal's Election Commission launches the nomination process today, Tuesday, January 20, for the upcoming House of Representatives election scheduled for March 5 across all 165 constituencies.
Election offices stand ready nationwide, with the commission urging political parties and candidates to maintain discipline, arrive peacefully and respectfully, and personally submit required documents.
Candidates must present photocopies of their citizenship certificate or voter ID, proof of inclusion in the final voter list from their municipality or village council, and all other necessary paperwork as per regulations.
To streamline operations and curb crowds, the commission has allocated distinct time slots for major parties and contenders. This follows the recent publication of the final list under the proportional representation system, where 110 of the 275 total seats will be filled proportionally, and 165 via direct elections.
The interim government, formed post the September 8-9, 2025, youth-led protests, has secured resources for the polls, including police selection for security. Authorities emphasize a smooth, orderly start to nominations on this pivotal day.
