Kathmandu , 20 January (H.S.): Education, Science, and Technology Minister Mahabir Pun has stepped down from Prime Minister Sushila Karki's government on Tuesday, January 20, becoming the third minister to quit within the last 24 hours ahead of upcoming elections.

Finance Minister Rameshwar Khanal announced Pun's resignation via social media, posting on Facebook: Mahabir Pun has resigned to actively pursue his campaign. Details remain unclear on which party or constituency Pun will contest from.

The Prime Minister's secretariat confirmed the education minister's departure. Pun had been appointed to the interim Sushila Karki administration following last year's youth-led Gen-Z movement. Just a day earlier, on Monday, Youth and Sports Minister Bablu Gupta and Information and Communications Minister Jagdish Kharel both resigned to contest elections on National Independent Party tickets.
