Thiruvananthapuram, Jan 20(HS):

With the Kerala Assembly elections drawing closer, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has issued a clear and firm message to legislators of the ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF): the coming days are critical, and all MLAs must step up their presence and performance in their respective constituencies.

Addressing the LDF Parliamentary Party meeting held on Tuesday morning as part of the ongoing Assembly session, the Chief Minister underlined that speculation over candidatures should not distract elected representatives from their primary responsibility—serving the people and strengthening the party’s connect at the grassroots.

Vijayan acknowledged that as elections approach, media reports and political discussions are rife with speculation about prospective candidates. Some sitting MLAs may be renominated, while others may not be fielded again. However, he stressed that these decisions rest with the party and should not influence the current commitment or intensity of work by legislators. Whether they contest again or not should not matter at this stage, he said, urging them to remain focused on their duties both inside the Assembly and in their constituencies.

The Chief Minister called upon MLAs to be visibly active on the ground, engage closely with the public, and respond effectively to local issues. He emphasized that sustained interaction with people, timely intervention in constituency matters, and proactive problem-solving are essential to earning public trust and appreciation. Legislators, he said, must work in a manner that wins the confidence and applause of the people.

Vijayan also reminded the MLAs that their role extends beyond individual performance. Collective effort is crucial to ensure that the Left Democratic Front returns to power. He urged them to function as strong representatives of both the party and the Front, projecting unity, discipline, and a clear political direction in the run-up to the polls.

The meeting comes against the backdrop of the Chief Minister’s earlier presentation to ministers titled “Mission 110,” a strategic roadmap aimed at securing a decisive mandate in the upcoming Assembly elections. The initiative reflects the LDF leadership’s emphasis on organisation, performance, and voter outreach as key pillars of its election strategy.

As Kerala heads into an intense political phase, the Chief Minister’s message serves as a reminder that electoral success will depend less on speculation and more on sustained grassroots engagement, effective governance, and the ability of MLAs to remain closely aligned with the aspirations of the people they represent.
