Four Killed, Four Critically Injured as Trailer Ploughs Into Vehicles on Bharatmala Highway in Bikaner

BIKANER, 02 January (H.S.): Four people were killed and four others sustained serious injuries when a speeding trailer mowed down eight persons on the Bharatmala Highway in Rajasthan’s Bikaner district late on Thursday night. The accident occurred on the Deshnok–Naurangdesar road under the Napasar police station limits, where a trailer rammed into a stationary auto-rickshaw and a pick-up vehicle parked on the roadside.

According to police, the victims were standing near the overturned auto-rickshaw when the trailer, coming at high speed, hit the vehicles and ran over the people gathered there. The impact was so severe that four persons died on the spot, while four others were grievously injured and later shifted to hospital.

How the accident happened

Injured victim Indra Singh stated that they were travelling from the Gandhinagar side when they noticed an auto-rickshaw overturned on the highway. The auto driver signalled them with lights, prompting them to stop and assist in lifting the vehicle. While they were attempting to put the auto back on its wheels, a trailer approached at high speed and crashed into the parked vehicles and the people standing around them.

Indra Singh said there were two to three other vehicles also parked at the spot, all of which came under the trailer’s impact. He added that he was flung towards the divider due to the force of the collision, which ultimately saved his life, as the trailer would otherwise have run over him.

Identities of the deceased

The four persons who died on the spot have been identified as:

Rajuram, son of Ramprasad Jat, resident of Lunasar, Churu district

Sunil, son of Lichhuram Godara, resident of Baddiya, Churu district

Sunil, son of Bhanwarlal Bishnoi, resident of Rasisar, Bikaner district

Rajesh, son of Puranmal Jangid, resident of Jheeni, Jhunjhunu district

Condition of the injured

Four injured persons were brought to PBM Hospital in Bikaner following the accident. The injured include:

Indra Singh, resident of Salawas in Jodhpur district

Tarachand, resident of Rajlawas in Churu district

Parmeshwar, resident of Baddiya in Churu district

Pooja, wife of Rajesh Jangid, resident of Jheeni in Jhunjhunu district

All four have been referred to the Trauma Centre in Bikaner, where their condition is reported to be critical. Police are investigating the incident and examining how the speeding trailer lost control and caused the fatal crash.
