Chennai, 18 January (H.S.) : Senior BJP leader Tamilisai Soundararajan has claimed that there is a significant lack of trust between the Indian National Congress and the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, DMK.
Speaking to the media on Sunday, the former governor suggested that the current alliance between the two parties is highly unstable and expressed doubts regarding its survival until the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. Her comments come at a time when political parties in the state are intensifying their strategies and forming new alignments for the upcoming electoral battle.
The statement by Soundararajan follows an announcement by Tamil Nadu BJP President Nainar Nagendran regarding the National Democratic Alliance, NDA, campaign. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to launch the alliance's electoral campaign from Madurantakam on January 23.
The BJP leadership has stated that the primary objective of this campaign is to challenge the incumbent DMK administration and bring the NDA to power in the state assembly. The BJP and AIADMK have recently renewed their partnership as they prepare to take on the ruling coalition in the upcoming polls.
On the other side, the DMK remains confident following its performance in the 2024 parliamentary elections and is working to retain its hold on the state. Meanwhile, AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami has already started announcing poll promises, including financial assistance for women and free bus travel for men.
As the political temperature rises in Tamil Nadu, Soundararajan’s remarks underscore the perceived friction within the ruling alliance. The 2026 elections are expected to be a multi-cornered contest with major political shifts anticipated in the coming months.
