Chennai, 17 January (H.S.) : The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, AIADMK, has officially unveiled the first phase of its electoral promises for the upcoming Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly elections. General Secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami announced several welfare schemes aimed at securing a victory for the National Democratic Alliance, NDA.
A key highlight is the Women’s Welfare Kulavilakku Scheme, which pledges 2000 rupees in monthly financial assistance to women heads of all ration card-holding families. Furthermore, the party has promised to introduce free bus travel for men on city buses, while ensuring the continuation of the existing free travel facility for women.
In a major push for housing, the Amma Illam Scheme was announced, under which the government would provide free concrete houses or apartments to landless families in both rural and urban areas. The party also plans to extend the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act, MGNREGA, workdays from 125 to 150 days to boost rural livelihoods. Additionally, the Amma Two-Wheeler Scheme will be revived to provide 5 lakh women with a subsidy of 25000 rupees each for purchasing vehicles.
Authorities within the party stated that these initiatives focus on grassroots development and women's empowerment. Earlier, Palaniswami paid floral tributes to late former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa at the party headquarters, signaling a high-energy start to the campaign. With the state expected to go to polls in the first half of the year, the AIADMK is looking to regain power from the ruling DMK by emphasizing welfare-oriented governance.
