Guwahati, 17 January (H.S.): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday enthralled a massive gathering at Sarusajai Stadium here, proclaiming Assam as one of India's fastest-developing states whose ascent forms an integral chapter in the nation's broader growth narrative.

Preceding his address at the landmark Bagurumba Dwhou 2026 — a traditional Bodo cultural programme —PM Modi led a grand roadshow through Guwahati's vibrant thoroughfares, underscoring the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) deepening bond with the state's indigenous communities.

Over 10,000 artists from the Bodo community, hailing from 81 assembly constituencies across 23 districts, staged a synchronized Bagurumba dance performance, symbolizing peace, fertility, joy, and communal harmony — traditions deeply intertwined with festivals like Bwisagu and Domasi.

Scathing Critique of Congress's Legacy

In a pointed critique, PM Modi accused the Congress of plunging Assam into cycles of violence post-independence, exploiting regional challenges for narrow political gains rather than resolving them. He lambasted the opposition for prioritizing illegal migrants in its vote-bank calculus, sidelining Assam's native populace, and even mocking the state's cultural icons — from opposing Bharat Ratna for legendary singer Bhupen Hazarika to resisting a semiconductor unit proposed for the region.

BJP government is cleansing the sins of Congress, connecting hearts and places in Assam, Modi asserted, framing the current administration's efforts as a redemptive force.

Vision for Tomorrow: Infrastructure and Unity

PM Modi's Assam sojourn extends into Sunday, January 18, with a pivotal visit to Kaliabor in Nagaon district, where he will lay the foundation stone for the ambitious Kaziranga Elevated Corridor Project — an over ₹6,950 crore initiative spanning 86 kilometers along National Highway-715.

This environmentally attuned venture features a 35-km elevated wildlife corridor through Kaziranga National Park, alongside bypasses at Jakhalabandha and Bokakhat, poised to slash human-animal conflicts, bolster road safety, and expedite connectivity to Upper Assam hubs like Dibrugarh and Tinsukia.

Additionally,PM Modi will inaugurate two new Amrit Bharat Express trains — Guwahati (Kamakhya)-Rohtak and Dibrugarh-Lucknow (Gomti Nagar) — fortifying rail links between Northeast India and the northern heartland while enhancing passenger comfort and regional integration. These unveilings cap a two-day itinerary blending cultural reverence with transformative development, signaling Assam's pivotal role in India's self-reliant resurgence.
