New Delhi, 17 January (H.S.): Prime Minister Narendra Modi commences a pivotal two-day visit to Assam today and tomorrow, blending cultural reverence with groundbreaking infrastructure initiatives to bolster the North-East's connectivity and ecological preservation.

On Saturday at approximately 6:00 PM, Modi will immerse himself in “Bagurumba Dwhou 2026” at Guwahati's Sarusajai Stadium, a landmark celebration of Bodo heritage featuring over 10,000 artists from 81 assembly constituencies across 23 districts performing the iconic Bagurumba dance in synchronized splendor.

This nature-inspired folk tradition, typically enacted by young Bodo women with male musicians, emulates butterflies, birds, leaves, and blooming flowers through graceful, flowing motions in circular or linear formations, embodying peace, fertility, joy, and communal harmony—especially during festivals like Bwisagu, the Bodo New Year, and Domasi.

Advancing to Sunday at around 11:00 AM in Kaliabor, Nagaon district, the Prime Minister will conduct the Bhoomi Pujan for the ambitious Kaziranga Elevated Corridor Project on the Kaliabor-Numaligarh stretch of NH-715, valued at over ₹6,950 crore.

Spanning 86 kilometers—including a 35-km elevated wildlife corridor through Kaziranga National Park, a 21-km bypass, and 30-km widening to four lanes—this eco-sensitive endeavor traverses Nagaon, Karbi Anglong, and Golaghat districts, facilitating seamless animal passage to curb human-wildlife conflicts while slashing travel times, enhancing safety, and accommodating surging traffic to Upper Assam hubs like Dibrugarh and Tinsukia.

Bypasses at Jakhalabandha and Bokakhat will alleviate urban congestion, elevating local living standards.

PM Modi will also flag off two new Amrit Bharat Express trains: Guwahati (Kamakhya)–Rohtak and Dibrugarh–Lucknow (Gomti Nagar), fortifying rail links between the North-East and northern India for safer, more accessible journeys for commuters, traders, and migrants.
