New Delhi, 17 January (H.S.): The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested Jitendra Kumar, a proclaimed offender in a ₹4 crore fraud case involving the Punjab National Bank’s Jor Bagh branch in the national capital, from Meerut on Thursday, January 15. He had been absconding since 2013, and on June 21, 2014, the court declared him a fugitive.

The CBI stated that in 2013, the agency registered a case against Sanjeev Dixit (proprietor, M/s Shankar Metals), Sanjay Sharma (proprietor, M/s Super Machine), Indra Rani, and other unidentified persons for obtaining a ₹4 crore cash credit facility from the Punjab National Bank’s Jor Bagh branch in Delhi using forged property documents.

The agency revealed that the investigation uncovered manipulations in the loan documents, where Sanjay Sharma was listed as the guarantor, but Jitendra Kumar’s photograph had been affixed in his place.

Additionally, a fake sale deed for a plot in Ghaziabad was submitted to the bank, portraying Sanjay Sharma as the owner while featuring Jitendra Kumar’s photo. Furthermore, an account in the name of M/s Rajdhani Traders, operated by Jitendra Kumar at Canara Bank’s Karkardooma branch, was used to divert the loan amount.

The probe also established that Jitendra Kumar was an employee of Sanjeev Dixit.Consequently, on December 12, 2013, a New Delhi court issued a non-bailable warrant against Sanjay Sharma alias Jitendra Kumar. On June 21, 2014, the court declared him a proclaimed offender.

Acting on human intelligence and analysis of government databases, the CBI pinpointed Jitendra Kumar’s location in Meerut. Supported by technical surveillance, the agency launched a special operation and apprehended him on Thursday. The arrested accused was produced in court, where he was remanded to three days of police custody. The investigation continues.
