
Guwahati, 14 January (HS): Jorabat Police Outpost under the Basistha police station area in Guwahati arrested three drug peddlers with a huge quantity of heroin during a naka checking operation.
Police said on Wednesday that acting on specific intelligence input, a police team intercepted an auto-rickshaw bearing registration number AS-01JC-7527 near the Jorabat Police Outpost. During a thorough search of the vehicle, police recovered 60 grams of heroin concealed inside five soap cases.
Following the seizure, three persons were arrested. The arrested accused have been identified as Sakibul Islam (31) of Barpeta district, Nazarul Islam (41) of Morigaon district and Manoj Singh (32) of Sonapur.
Apart from the heroin, police also seized cash amounting to ₹1,970 and three mobile phones from the possession of the accused.
A case has been registered under the NDPS Act and police have initiated intensive interrogation of the arrested persons to ascertain the source and network involved in the drug trafficking racket.------
