New Delhi, September 3 (HS): The Delhi High Court has dismissed the bail plea of an accused who allegedly impersonated the nephew of Union Home Minister Amit Shah and defrauded a businessman of ₹3.9 crore. A bench of Justice Girish Kathpalia observed that, given the gravity of the allegations, the accused was not entitled to bail.

According to the prosecution, the complainant was introduced to the accused at the Gymkhana Club in Jalandhar through a relative. The accused introduced himself as “Ajay Shah,” claiming to be Amit Shah’s nephew, and promised to secure lucrative government contracts for the businessman.

He allegedly demanded ₹2.5 crore from the complainant as “processing fees” for a presidential estate renovation project. Following multiple discussions, the complainant transferred a total of ₹3.9 crore — partly in cash and partly via RTGS transactions.

Later, the accused showed the complainant a photograph of a demand draft worth ₹127 crore, claiming that the tender’s cost had been escalated from ₹90 crore to ₹127 crore. At this point, the complainant became suspicious of foul play and eventually lodged a police complaint.

The accused was arrested in December 2021 and has remained in custody since. The court, emphasizing the seriousness of the fraud and its implications, refused to grant bail.
