New Delhi, September 2(HS):
In a landmark performance during the tri-nation series match in Sharjah on Monday, UAE captain Muhammad Waseem etched his name in cricket history by surpassing Indian skipper Rohit Sharma's record for the most sixes hit by a captain in T20 International cricket.
During UAE’s innings in the third over, Waseem smashed back-to-back sixes off Afghanistan spinner Mujeeb-ur-Rahman to eclipse this prestigious record. Wasim’s explosive innings featured 67 runs off just 37 balls, including six towering sixes, although it fell short of securing a win for his team. UAE managed 150 runs for 8 wickets while chasing a target of 188.
Wasim now holds the record with 110 sixes hit as a captain in T20 Internationals, overtaking Rohit Sharma, who had accumulated 105 sixes in 35 matches as captain.
The all-time leaderboard for most sixes by T20I captains now stands as follows:
--Muhammad Waseem (UAE) – 110 sixes
--Rohit Sharma (India) – 105 sixes
--Eoin Morgan (England) – 86 sixes
--Aaron Finch (Australia) – 82 sixes
--Kadowaki Fleming (Japan) – 79 sixes
--Jos Buttler (England) – 69 sixes
Waseem’s feat highlights his power-hitting prowess and solidifies his standing as one of the most explosive leaders in the format.
