New Delhi, September 2(HS): Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday appealed for urgent assistance to the flood-ravaged state of Punjab. He urged all political parties, the central government, and state administrations to rise above politics and extend help and support to Punjab during this crisis.
In a video message, the former Delhi Chief Minister announced that all AAP MPs and MLAs are donating one month’s salary each to the Punjab Chief Minister’s Relief Fund. He appealed to citizens and organizations to contribute generously towards the relief efforts.
Kejriwal said, “Punjab, the protective shield of Mother India, is currently enduring the calamity of floods. It is time to come forward and help. Whenever foreign invasions threatened India, Punjab stood firm, defending the nation with sacrifice and valor. Punjab’s contribution in the freedom struggle was unparalleled.”
He highlighted Punjab’s legacy of bravery and wisdom, noting that the state had nourished the entire country through the Green Revolution and now stands in distress.
Notably, Punjab is currently grappling with severe flooding caused by heavy rains. According to S. Hardeep Singh Mundian, Punjab’s Revenue, Rehabilitation, and Disaster Management Minister, over 256,000 people across 12 districts have been affected. Thousands have been displaced, with significant damage reported to human lives, property, agriculture, and livestock.
Punjab is governed by the Aam Aadmi Party at present.
