Hooghly, 4 August (H.S.): Kalyan Banerjee, a four-time Trinamool Congress MP from Serampore, has resigned as the party's chief whip in the Lok Sabha. On Monday, the Trinamool MP himself confirmed that he has resigned from the post of party's chief whip in the Lok Sabha amid differences with Mahua Moitra.

Kalyan Banerjee announced his resignation after attending a virtual meeting of TMC MPs chaired by Trinamool supremo Mamata Banerjee.

Banerjee said, I have resigned as the party's chief whip in the Lok Sabha as 'didi' (West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee) said during the virtual meeting that there is a lack of coordination among party MPs. So the blame is on me. Therefore, I have decided to step down.

The virtual meeting was attended by TMC MPs from both the Houses - Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha.
