Tamulpur (Assam), 04 August (HS): Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma has launched a scathing attack on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, alleging that the latter’s views resonate more with the ideologies of Bangladesh and Pakistan than with Indian traditions and values.

Addressing a BJP election rally in Tamulpur under the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR), Sarma stated, “Rahul Gandhi does not stand with Indian Hindus or Muslims—he does not stand with India at all.”

The comments came during the BJP’s intensive outreach campaign, titled ‘BJP for Progressive BTR’, aimed at consolidating support ahead of the upcoming council elections in the region scheduled for September. The campaign is actively underway across districts like Kokrajhar, Baksa, Chirang, and Udalguri, with Sarma and Assam BJP president Bhabesh Kalita leading from the front.

Sarma’s accusations were reinforced by several BJP leaders, who accused the Congress of destabilising the region by siding with encroachers under the guise of opposing the Citizenship (Amendment) Act and eviction operations.

In Udalguri, Sarma led a massive roadshow, attracting large public participation. Notably, he also garnered support from civil societies like the Nagrik Adhikar Suraksha Manch, along with public figures such as comedian Bulbul Sharma, who endorsed the BJP’s stance on protecting indigenous rights.

With meetings lined up in all 12 BTR council constituencies on August 7, 12, and 13, the BJP’s campaign is intensifying. Additional events are also scheduled in Dhubri and Goalpara districts, signaling a broader push.

The BJP is presenting the BTR elections as a decisive moment to back strong governance and reaffirm the rights of indigenous communities, positioning its anti-encroachment drive as a key electoral issue.
