Nagpur, 31 July
(HS): The Women’s Chess World Cup winner Grandmaster Divya Deshmukh will be
felicitated by the Maharashtra Government in Nagpur on August 2. Divya was
accorded a huge welcome upon her arrival at Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport in Nagpur on Wednesday.
The city
showered love and blessings from hundreds of newfound fans, family members and
friends. The 19-year-old Nagpurian, Divya, became the first Indian to win the Chess World Championship, beating another Indian, Koneru Humpy, at Batumi,
Georgia.
Her felicitation
function will be attended by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Union Minister
Nitin Gadkari, Maharashtra Revenue Minister and Nagpur’s Guardian Minister
Chandrashekhar Bawankule, Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Dattatreya Bharne,
Minister of State for Finance and Planning Ashish Jaiswal, and others.
