Major Cabinet Decisions: ₹150 Cr Boost for Assam Police, 10 Co-Districts to be Functional by August 15

Guwahati, 23 July (HS): Several important decisions were taken in the Assam Cabinet meeting held at the Chief Minister's Secretariat in Dibrugarh on Wednesday under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma. The main points are as follows—

Financial approval of ₹150 crore was given for Maitree Yojana. The state cabinet approved ₹150 crore under this scheme to improve the image of police stations. In the first phase of the scheme, construction of 73 police stations has been completed, while 46 police stations have been taken up in the second phase. Of these, 31 police stations and one cyber police station have already been completed. Work is in progress on the remaining police stations.

The cabinet also underlined that so far infrastructure worth ₹1,500 crore has been created for the Assam Police, which is unprecedented.

Approval of 10 Co-District Superintendent of Police (Co-DSP) posts

To strengthen the police administration, it was decided to upgrade and re-designate the sanctioned posts in Assam Police as Co-District Superintendent of Police. The 10 new co-districts notified by the General Administration Department will be functional from August 15.

The new co-districts will be inaugurated on August 12. The state government has decided to inaugurate the co-districts on August 12. The related programs will be presided over by the ministers.

Among these, the co-district presidents will be Boko Jayanta Mallabarua, Palashbari Chandra Mohan Patwari, Rangapara Piyush Hazarika,

Borsola Ashok Singhal,

Mariani Ajanta Neog, Tiok Atul Bora, Makum Bimal Bora, Digboi Rupesh Gowala, Dholai Krishnendu Paul and Dudhnai Ranjit Kumar Das.

Apart from these, a new scheme named 'Chief Minister Foreign Language Initiative (CM-FLIGHT)' was approved, under which arrangements will be made to provide employment abroad to the youth by giving them foreign language training (such as JLPT N2 level Japanese). Its pilot project will be implemented in 2025-26.

The partner agencies in this will be Asian One Company Limited, Jasix Ventures and Meiko Career Partners Company Limited.

These agencies will provide language training and employment facilities under Japan's SFW visa program.

Collective development of apartments will be done through MLALADS and United Fund. The cabinet approved a new scheme for the development of collective infrastructure in apartments.

There should be at least 16 flats. The housing society should be registered. 80% of the flats should be inhabited.

This will include repair of internal roads, drainage system, water supply, electricity system improvement, construction of community facilities like parks, halls, security and disaster management work and other necessary repair work.

Assam Innovation and Startup Foundation will be formed. The formation of a Section-8 company named Assam Innovation and Startup Foundation has been approved under the Department of Innovation, Incubation and Startup (DIIS). Its objective is to promote innovation and startup culture in the state.

Apart from these, some important decisions were taken in the cabinet meeting.
