Bangalore, 01 July (H.S.) : The Central Administrative Tribunal has quashed the suspension order of senior IPS officer Vikas Kumar, who was suspended in connection with the horrific stampede that took place during the IPL victory celebrations near the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on 03 June.

A CAT bench headed by Justices BK Srivastava and Santosh Mehra issued this order and directed the state government to restore Vikas Kumar to his previous post, allowances and facilities.

Senior advocate Dhyan Chinnappa argued for Vikas Kumar, while the Advocate General sought time on behalf of the government.

After hearing the case, the tribunal came to the conclusion that his suspension was not carried out on the correct principles and procedure.

On 03 June, a stampede occurred at Chinnaswamy Stadium, where lakhs of fans had gathered to celebrate Royal Challengers Bangalore's IPL victory, killing 11 people.

The debate in both the political and public circles about who is responsible for this incident keeps continuing till date.

Vikas Kumar was suspended from the post of Additional Commissioner of Police (West Division) after the incident, but he had approached the CAT against this action.
