Gorakhpur,
04 June (HS): A man reportedly murdered his wife on suspicion of having an extramarital
affair and then surrendered to a police station in Gorakhpur's Sahjanwa region,
authorities said on Wednesday. Angad Sharma reportedly sliced his wife Neha's
neck with a knife on Wednesday morning at their home in Bahilpar village,
according to authorities.
After
committing the murder, Sharma allegedly waited alongside the body for about an
hour before heading to the Sahjanwa police station and telling investigators,
I killed my wife. Her body
is at home.” A police crew went to the scene and saw Neha lying on the bed in a
pool of blood, prompting the need for a forensic team to collect evidence.
According
to Superintendent of Police (North) Jitendra Kumar Srivastava, a FIR was filed
in response to a complaint from the woman's relatives. Her body has been
submitted for a post-mortem, and Angad is in prison. According to preliminary
investigations, Angad and Neha married for love around two years ago, despite
objections from their families owing to caste issues.
The
duo married at a temple and relocated to Karnataka, where Angad worked as a
carpenter. They later went to Gorakhpur, where Neha
resumed living with her elder sister in the Gorakhpur Industrial Development
Authority (GIDA) region and worked at a car agency, according to authorities. Tensions
apparently rose between the pair after Angad returned to Gorakhpur and
discovered Neha speaking to someone on the phone late at night.
The
two routinely clashed about suspicions of adultery, according to investigators.
On the night of June 3, the couple had another disagreement, and Angad
reportedly beat Neha with a heavy instrument before slicing her neck, according
to officials.
