Mumbai, 05 June (HS): A major fire at Mumbai’s
Churchgate Station around 5.30 pm on Thursday rattled the passengers catching
trains to return to their homes. The Firefighters brought the fire under control
within a short time and prevented major chaos. The entrance to the stations
was closed for some time. The fire broke out at the Monginis Cake Shop,
suspected to be due to a short circuit. The entrance gates were opened soon.
Preliminary reports suggest that there is no loss of life.
The Manginis Cake Shop is one of the shops in the
underground passage at the Churchgate station. The underground passage was immediately
closed when smoke emanating from the shop was noticed. The Fire Brigade
immediately brought the fire under control and avoided a major incident in the underground
pass. The local train service was not affected due to the fire. The entrance
was opened after the fire was brought under control.
