Nagpur, 05 June (HS):
The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has submitted a proposal to the
Maharashtra Government to supply 240 electric buses under the PM e-Bus Sewa
Scheme, to replace the 237 diesel buses in operation for almost a decade.
Earlier, 150
electric buses were allotted for Nagpur under the scheme. The NMC has expressed
readiness to add additional buses, citing the development of charging
infrastructure and supporting power systems.
‘Aapli Bus’
Administrative Officer Sonam Deshmukh confirmed that a detailed proposal,
including technical specifications and infrastructure readiness, has been
submitted to the state steering committee. “The new buses will reduce emissions
and improve both air quality and commuter comfort,” she added.
Currently, the city’s fleet has 230 electric buses—184 AC and 46 non-AC—along
with 150 midi and 45 mini buses, operating on 129 routes. The buses cover nearly
one lakh kilometres daily, and serve about 1.17 lakh passengers.
