Hyderabad, 4 June (H.S.): A student, Pakiru Gopal Reddy, was detained at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport after being deported from the US for using fake documents to obtain a visa. Reddy, a 28-year-old from Nalgonda district, was arrested on June 1 upon arrival from Dallas, where US immigration officials discovered his inactive SEVIS status.
He had been pursuing a master's degree at Webster University in Missouri and had initially stayed in the US for 15 months. During interrogation, he admitted to securing his visa with a fraudulent BSc Computers degree from Madurai Kamaraj University.
Reddy implicated Katoju Ashok, managing director of Sri Dhanalakshmi Overseas Private Limited, who provided the fake certificates and has previously assisted at least 15 students since 2020 for fees between Rs 80,000 to Rs 1 lakh. The police arrested Ashok on June 2, and the investigation continues.
