

Northeast can become an economic hub: Himanta
Guwahati, 27 June (HS): The two-day Second North East Mining and Mineral Ministers' Conclave began on Friday at the Mayfair Resort in Sonapur. Organized on the initiative of the Ministry of Mines, Government of India, this conference is brainstorming on sustainability in the mining sector and development of the Northeast.
On this occasion, Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, Union Coal and Mining Minister G. Kishan Reddy and Union Minister of State (Mining) Satish Chandra Dubey were present. The theme of the conference is - Empowerment of the Northeast through Sustainable Mining.
Chief Minister Dr. Sarma said in his speech that The mineral wealth of the Northeast and especially Assam has historical importance. If we exploit these resources properly, then this region can become the economic hub of the country. He also said that States will have to cooperate with the central government and move towards self-reliance. Development is not possible by just depending on others.
Ministers and officials of the Mining and Mineral Department of the Northeast states attended the conference. This conference will continue on Saturday as well, in which sustainable mining policies, investment possibilities and coordination between the states will be discussed in detail.
