Bangalore, 23 June (H.S.): The Karnataka High Court has appointed senior advocate Sushila as amicus curiae in a suo motu case filed in connection with the stampede that left 11 people dead near the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru during the victory celebrations of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the IPL.

A bench comprising Acting Chief Justice V. Kameshwara Rao and Justice C.M. Joshi issued this order while hearing a suo motu petition filed based on media reports regarding the stampede.

The court has directed the registrar to provide lawyer Sushila with the applications filed in the case, all documents related to it, and the status report submitted by the government so far, and has adjourned the hearing to next Tuesday.

The lawyers who were present during the hearing, who filed an interim application, requested that the application seeking cancellation of the FIR registered at the Cubbon Park Police Station regarding the incident be heard along with this application.

The lawyer for another interim petition also requested that the government be directed to increase the compensation amount for the deceased.

Responding to this, the bench adjourned the hearing, stating that it has now appointed an amicus curiae who will present arguments. It also said that it will hear all the petitioners.
