Dibrugarh (Assam), 11 June (HS): The incident of a youth drowning and going missing in the Budhidihing river in Pandhoa village of Tengakhat police station area of Dibrugarh district has created a sensation in the area.
According to the information received, on Tuesday afternoon at around 3 o'clock, Nayanjyoti Sonowal (20), son of Parikshit Sonowal of Pandhoa village, Supriyo Borsaikia (19), son of Tulsi Borsaikia and Devjit Sonowal (19), son of Bipul Sonowal, reached the banks of the Budhidihing river about two kilometers away on a motorcycle.
Nayanjyoti and Supriyo crossed the river and went to 'Mesh Chapri' and while returning, Nayanjyoti Sonowal drowned in the river. The youth who accompanied him failed to save him and immediately informed the family members and acquaintances.
As soon as the information was received, the family informed the Tengakhat police. Thereafter, the Dibrugarh-based SDRF team was sent to the spot at around 5:45 pm under the leadership of Major Rana Deuri. The team conducted a search operation in the river till 7 pm, but the operation had to be postponed due to darkness.
According to the information, the search for the drowned youth has been resumed since Wednesday morning.---------------
