Patna, May 23 (H.S.): Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw while addressing in Indian Railway Institute of Mechanical & Electrical Engineering (IRIMEE) ,Jamalpur highlighted Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision to modernize the railways, particularly for Bihar. He announced a ₹350 crore modernization plan for the Jamalpur rail factory and revealed that the IRIMEE will now offer training to local youth, beginning with a new batch in 2026. This initiative aims to equip talented individuals for respectable positions within the railway sector.
Vaishnaw noted that over the last decade, more than 50,000 kilometers of railway electrification has occurred, significantly surpassing the 20,000 kilometers achieved in the previous sixty years. The railway sector had heavily relied on diesel imports, prompting the Prime Minister's commitment to full electrification, with a focus on making India self-reliant. He also discussed the transformation of railway funding in Bihar, increasing from a mere ₹1,000 crores to ₹10,000 crores, supported by a total investment of ₹100,000 crores in railway projects. A comprehensive action plan for the Jamalpur rail factory development has been prepared by experts. Vaishnaw expressed gratitude to MP Rajiv Ranjan alias Lalan Singh and Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha for their contributions and suggestions regarding railway safety.
