Colombo, May 21 (H.S.): Ramith Rambukwella, son of former Sri Lankan Minister Keheliya Rambukwella, has been arrested by the Corruption Investigation Commission following nearly 10 hours of questioning. A Colombo court recently allowed for him to be named as a suspect in a case related to his father's corruption allegations. Keheliya resigned from his ministerial position in February 2024 amidst emerging corruption revelations and is currently in police custody. Ramith was summoned to appear before the Commission as per a court order during a hearing on May 20.
The corruption case, linked to Keheliya's tenure from 2021 to 2023, includes accusations of appointing associates to private positions and unlawfully receiving allowances, alongside a fake medicine procurement scandal. This has reportedly caused over eight million rupees in financial loss to the government, with Ramith being the second suspect involved.
