Barpeta (Assam), 19 May (HS): A gruesome robbery incident has come to light in the early hours of Monday in Balarpathar village under Kalgachiya police station area of Barpeta district of Assam. According to the information, 10-12 robbers broke the grill of the house and entered inside and took the elderly couple living there hostage. The robbers tied the hands and feet of the couple and looted about eight lakh rupees in cash and gold jewellery kept in the house.

The robbers attacked the head of the house Abdul Karim with sticks, due to which he was seriously injured and the entire floor was found soaked in blood. All the belongings of the house were destroyed.

This incident has created a sensation in the area. The victim Abdul Karim has alleged that some local youths are also involved in the gang of robbers. He has demanded strict action by arresting the accused as soon as possible.

On receiving the information about the incident, Kalgachiya police reached the spot and after taking stock of the situation, started the investigation.
