Delhi, 8 April (H.S.): President of India Droupadi Murmu, received the ‘City Key of Honour’ from Lisbon's Mayor at Lisbon City Hall on April 7, 2025. She expressed gratitude, highlighting Lisbon's culture, tolerance, and innovation. The President noted opportunities for India and Portugal to collaborate in technological and digital areas. Later that evening, she attended a banquet hosted by the President of Portugal, H.E. Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa at Palacio da Ajuda, where she reflected on the centuries-old cultural ties between the two nations, evident in architecture, languages, and cuisine.
Celebrating 50 years of India-Portugal relations, she emphasized the potential for cooperation in various sectors, including science, technology, defence, IT, and education. The President underscored India’s focus on creating an inclusive and sustainable development model through innovation and technology, considering Portugal a vital partner in these initiatives. She acknowledged Portugal's significant role in enhancing India's relationship with the EU, recalling the historic India-EU Summit in 2000 and the India-EU Plus 27 Leadership Summit in 2021 during Portugal's EU Presidency.
The President anticipated a closer and more productive partnership between India and Portugal, benefiting both nations and the broader global community.
