Itanagar, 5 April (HS): Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma participated as the chief guest in the 59th central function of the sacred Mopin Festival of the Galo tribe held at Alo in Arunachal Pradesh. On this occasion, he said that the Mopin Festival is not only a symbol of the rich cultural heritage of Arunachal Pradesh, but it is also a strong symbol of love and unity between Assam and Arunachal Pradesh.
The Chief Minister said that the Mopin Festival is a sacred agricultural festival that gives the message of gratitude to nature, prosperity and social unity. This festival celebrated by the Galo community connects generations through traditional folk songs and dance 'Popir'.
Chief Minister Dr. Sarma said that this festival is not only a cultural festival, but it is a part of the tradition connected to our soul, which has been preserved from generation to generation. He said that such festivals also strengthen the preservation of tribal culture and deep connection with nature.
The Chief Minister said that today when Northeast India is on the threshold of historic change under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, initiatives like 'Transportation through Transportation' and 'Act East Policy' have given a new direction to the development of the region. Earlier, the Northeast was considered a neglected region, today it is becoming a gateway to the fast growing economies of South-East Asia.
Discussing the strong ties between Assam and Arunachal Pradesh, the Chief Minister said that the Mopin Festival is a celebration of the shared cultural values of the two states. He expressed confidence that the border dispute between Assam and Arunachal Pradesh will be completely resolved under the leadership of the present governments.
Dr. Sarma also announced that the 100th birth anniversary of the great musician Dr. Bhupen Hazarika will be celebrated with great enthusiasm in Assam as well as Arunachal Pradesh in the year 2026. He said that Dr. Hazarika's immense love for Arunachal and the affection of the people of the state towards him will make this festival special.
On this occasion, Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu, Culture, Science and Technology Minister Sumati Disanglu Pul, Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Kento Jini, MLA Topin Ete, CEM Tuliram Ranghang, International Football Coach Gumpe Rime, Brigadier Shahid Ahmed Khan and many other dignitaries were present.
