Kolkata, 3 April (H.S.) – West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has urged all communities in the state to celebrate the upcoming Ram Navami peacefully and not fall for rumours. The festival is set to be observed on April 6.
Indirectly targeting the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Banerjee referred to it as a jumla party that aims to divide the country along religious lines.
I urge everyone to maintain peace during Ram Navami, stay vigilant, and not pay heed to any rumours, Banerjee said
She cautioned against communal conflicts, stating, Do not get involved in any riots… remember, this is their game plan. In Bengal, we follow the teachings of Ramakrishna and Vivekananda, not that of the 'Jumla' party. Also, do not disrupt other festivals.
Emphasizing religious harmony, Banerjee stated, Religion is a personal belief, but festivals are for everyone. Just as Sikhs carry out processions with kirpans, others can also hold rallies, but they must follow police guidelines and ensure no disturbances.
She also mentioned that she would be attending a Jain community event on April 9.
Additionally, Banerjee addressed rumours about her resignation as Chief Minister, confirming that an FIR had been filed over the false claims.
They spread a rumour that I have resigned. Such fake news is being circulated through digital media. We have lodged an FIR against it, she said.
Taking a dig at the Left parties, she accused some leaders of aligning with the BJP ahead of elections.
I respect many Left leaders, but not those who join hands with the BJP when elections are near. I urge them not to confuse saffronisation with their party's ideology, or they will disappear politically, she added.
