Hooghly, 3 April (H.S.): Based on source information the Special Investigation Team of Hooghly Rural Police arrested the kingpin of the motorcycle theft gang. After interrogating the accused, another criminal was arrested from Dadpur. Based on the statements of the arrested criminals, the police recovered four motorcycles stolen from Dadpur police station area to Jangipara, Balagarh and Gurap and two motorcycles stolen from Memari and Kalna police station areas of neighbouring district East Burdwan.
The arrested accused were produced in Chuchura court on Thursday and the police sought their custody. The police are engaged in gathering information about other members of the gang and the network involved in the sale of stolen motorcycles.
The arrested accused have been identified as Sheikh Rahul (29) and Sheikh Mafijul (34). Both the accused are residents of Namajpara of Pandaua police station area. They have been accused of being involved in various criminal activities earlier also. According to the police, both of them had formed a gang which was committing motorcycle thefts in various areas of Hooghly and East Burdwan district.
