Islamabad, April 24 (H.S.) : Pakistan, reacting to India's announcement of diplomatic measures after the Pahalgam terrorist attack, declared the closure of the Wagah border and implemented several countermeasures during a National Security Committee (NSC) meeting.
The federal government noted that any Indian obstruction of Pakistan's water flow would equate to a declaration of war. Effective April 30, the Indian High Commission's diplomatic staff in Islamabad will be capped at 30, and Pakistan's airspace will be closed to all Indian flights immediately.
The NSC convened in light of the attack that resulted in over 20 fatalities, chaired by Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif and attended by key military and civilian leaders, including Army Chief General Asim Munir.
Discussions covered both internal and external security concerns, specifically addressing India’s unilateral decision to suspend the Indus Water Treaty, which is critical for Pakistan's 240 million citizens. The committee stressed that Pakistan will assert its water rights vigorously.
Additionally, all trade with India, including through third countries, will be suspended. The military and civilian leadership underscored the need for a robust response to India's aggressive stance, emphasizing their readiness to face any hostility.
In summary, these measures mark a significant escalation in tensions between the two nations, reflecting deepening hostilities and a commitment to defending national interests.
