Kalbaisakhi Rains to Persist in Odisha Till April 25; IMD Issues Yellow Warning for 13 Districts

Bhubaneswar, 20 April (H.S.): The ongoing spell of Kalbaisakhi rain has brought much-needed relief from the sweltering heat across Odisha. According to the Regional Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar, intermittent thundershowers and light rainfall are expected to continue in various parts of the state until April 25.

A yellow warning has been issued for 13 districts, including Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Keonjhar, Bhadrak, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, and Nuapada. These areas are likely to experience thunderstorms, gusty winds ranging from 30–40 km/h, and in isolated cases, up to 50 km/h.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) attributes the current weather pattern to the presence of two active trough lines over the state. Officials noted that the Kalbaisakhi system is particularly active in southern Odisha, where rainfall and thunderstorms are likely to continue over the next 24 hours.

Residents have been advised to take precautions against lightning and strong winds. The IMD continues to monitor the situation closely and is issuing timely updates to ensure public safety.
