Chennai, 2 April (H.S.): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Tamil Nadu Unit on Wednesday has urgently requested the intervention of Hon'ble External Affairs Minister, Dr. S. Jaishankar, to facilitate the swift repatriation of five workers from Tenkasi, Tamil Nadu, who are currently stranded in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
According to a statement released by BJP Tamil Nadu President, K. Annamalai (@annamalai_k), the workers are facing severe distress as their employer in the UAE has allegedly withheld their passports, preventing them from returning to India.
We have received alarming reports about five workers from Tenkasi who are facing immense hardship in the UAE. Their employer is reportedly refusing to return their passports, effectively holding them captive and preventing their return to their homeland, stated K. Annamalai in his social media post.
The BJP Tamil Nadu Unit On x handle ( https://x.com/annamalai_k/status/1907411789895324060) has expressed deep concern for the well-being of these workers and has called upon the External Affairs Minister to take immediate action to ensure their safe and prompt return.
We earnestly request the kind intervention of our Hon'ble EAM, Thiru Dr. S. Jaishankar avl, in this critical matter. The safety and welfare of our citizens abroad is of utmost importance, and we are confident that the Ministry of External Affairs will take swift and decisive steps to resolve this issue, the statement added.
The appeal highlights the ongoing challenges faced by Indian migrant workers in foreign countries and underscores the need for robust mechanisms to protect their rights and ensure their safe return when necessary. The BJP Tamil Nadu unit has pledged to continue monitoring the situation and provide all necessary support to the affected workers and their families.
